MANGO REJUVENATION
India ranks first among world’s
mango producing countries accounting for about 50% of the world’s mango
production. In 2014-2015, mango occupied an area of 2218.2 hectares with a
production of 18832.4 MT.(Source: Horticulture Statistics Division, Department
of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare) In India, 36% of land and
31.13% of production is under mango.Mango accounts for 40% of the total fruit
export from the country but the productivity as compared to other countries is
low.Improving the productivity of old, unproductive mango orchards plays an
important role in augmenting production and productivity of mango in the
country.Thinning of overcrowded branches to facilitate air circulation improves
photosynthetic efficiency, fruit yield and quality.
METHODOLOGY FOR REJUVENATING THE EXISTING ORCHARDS
Identification of old
orchards.
Involves the heading back of
exhausted trees showing marked decline in annual production and quality of
produce.
Top and Frame Working by Power
Pruning Saw.
Procurement of bud wood and scion from genuine source.
Frame working with latest
available varieties.
Operations under expert
guidance.
